CHARLES MOVALLI (1945-2016) primarily painted New England Landscapes and Seascapes in acrylic. His works are characterized by dramatic brushstrokes and vivid color. The composition of each work is uniquely appropriate to the subject matter, providing appropriate emphasis to the center of attention that he hoped to hold. Yet his loose works are best described as boldly impressionistic, leaving much to be filled in by the observer.
Simplification and expression were his watchwords. "...it can't look as though you've worked too hard and long, even if you have... painting is reaction. It is a matter of swiftly pursuing an insight to its logical conclusion."
Over the years he lectured and gave demonstrations for over 100 organizations and juried exhibitions. He was an avid teacher as well as painter. He furthered the careers of scores of aspiring young artists. He had a PHD in English, and earlier in his career was an aspiring student of renowned New England Landscape artist Emille Gruppe. Movalli later edited four of Gruppe's books during their earlier collaboration. During his career, Movalli received more than 50 awards from numerous organizations for his artwork, and his pieces are owned by private and public collectors around the world.
