ERIC TOBIN is a well-know regional landscape artist whose works are lively and evocative. They capture the unique beauty and light of this region in a way that suggests that the viewer is present at the actual time and place of its painting. All of his landscapes are done plein air, or outdoors at the actual scene of the subject. Given the extremes in Vermont weather and its volatile conditions, this method of painting can be particularly challenging. But we think the result is extraordinary!
He is a self-taught artist having been interested in painting and drawing since childhood. At the age of twelve, Thomas Curtin, a well-known Vermont landscape painter, not only gave Eric his first set of paints but became his mentor as they painted together frequently. Eric enjoys painting out-of-doors in rural Vermont where he has lived most of his life. He particularly likes to capture the feeling of a place, the time of day or season of the year with winter being his favorite.
Eric's work has been shown in galleries throughout New England. His paintings are in corporate and private collections across the country and abroad.
